Captain Latane was built by Alton Smith In 1944 at Susan Virginia
Her design and lines carry back to his fatherE.L.Smith who built similar vessels in the 1920S. She was constructed to run the FOUR FOOT CHOP of the Chesapeake Bay hauling oysters fish and farm produce to the markets.Original named George E she operated primarily out of the Hampton VA and Tangier Island VA.Her current owners acquired her and renamed her CAPT.Latane for a distant relative who was a cavalry Captain (C.S.A. during the Civil War.
In recent years she was retired as a work boat and enjoyed by her owners and their families and friends for pleasure cruises all over the Chesapeake Bay and Intracoastal Waterway.hosting wedding parties and various club outings. She has frequently entertained 25 to 30 guests.aboard one excursion.> Now there are NO AMINITES there is only a forward V-Berth & a Head Aft.

It is just a day boat for family friends & short cruises. Up in the forward hatch is a V-Berth & a window type air conditioner. The steps going into this area a steep. The head-no shower is all the way to the aft as shown in the pictures.
